bio

Molly Cox (yes, the very one who wrote this bio and actively chose to do so in third person) has been a server, a radio DJ, a consultant, a bartender, a facilitator, a theatre director, a speaker, and a nonprofit executive. She even dabbled as a university lecturer and spent a summer at Gap, where she lost an inordinate amount of time mopping the floor of the public family bathroom. These positions are more alike than they are different. The places where they happened were also more alike than different.

Before returning to consulting in 2021, Molly spent a decade with SA2020, the nonprofit that drives progress toward a shared community vision in San Antonio, Texas. She led the organization in researching more than 60 community indicators, sharing more complete stories of San Antonio’s successes and challenges, and coordinating the alignment of multi-sector organizations toward shared goals prioritized by the community. This work has been recognized both nationally and internationally. At SA2020, she learned the power of authentic community engagement, shared goals, institutional accountability, and storytelling.

Over the course of her professional career, Molly has had the good fortune of being part of some seriously cool efforts: engaging more than 12,000 San Antonians in co-creating a shared vision for their city; helping develop a one-stop, online resource for local elections; and coordinating the event that launched First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative. (Yes, she did meet the First Lady. And yes, she did use the word vomit when she did so.) Each of these efforts were done in partnership with small but mighty teams of women.

Her improvised TEDx talk led to her emceeing San Antonio's local TEDx for two years. Her PechaKucha reminded San Antonians about the importance of cheese and creating actual change rather than just talking about it. She once went "viral" because of chicken sandwiches. She has interviewed young people about their futures, as well as former San Antonio Mayor and HUD Secretary, Julián Castro, about his role in defining San Antonio's future. On occasion,  you can find her serving up her best political punditry

She has a BA in theatre and a master’s in political science, (which makes complete sense). She is a Certified Nonprofit Professional and an alum of University of Texas at Austin's LBJ Women’s Campaign School. Sometimes, you can catch her on KSAT-News as a political commentator during elections.
